A Week in the Life...

Written 7/14/13...

So we have had an exciting week. The air conditioner broke last Saturday, forcing us to go stay in a hotel. Mostly because I'm a baby & can't stand the humidity & heat.

So in our beautiful block of paradise where do you stay when such a tragedy strikes but the beach of course.
Of course we invited everyone we could to join us... And they brought a favorite summer treat, watermelon!

We watched sunsets, hung out by the pool, relaxed in the a/c. It was like a mini-vacation, except we still had to go to work & I had to clean out the stuff out of my garage... Boy did that make hubby happy! They installed the new a/c system on Wednesday & it's wonderful!!!

Then on Thursday it was 7/11/13, so we had free Slurpees from 7-11, and our Great Auntie Anne had never before tried one!

"Oh was that cold, but good!" She said, and we laughed and laughed!

On Friday it was Chick-fil-a Cow Appreciation day... Bottom line dress like a cow & get free food! So what choice did we have? We love free...

And last but not least my little princess got a callback for a small movie role!

She had 1 line and a close-up in 7 hours of filming, lol. But it was a great experience for her.
She's behind the scissors on the desk. It was a long day, but she made new friends got to spend time with old ones & learned what it takes to be a movie star. We came home & took a nap then had a lovely dinner with our very good friends!

What a wonderful way to end an adventurous week!

And so we begin... Again?

So once again in an effort to keep up with an be accountable to I will begin a blog again of our homeschool year.

Since it has been quite some time since my last post we will do a brief update:

The exciting news is my boy BMXracer, has graduated high school! He made it through! I made it to the finish line and survived to tell the tale!

I cannot believe that 18 years have flown by and that I am the parent of an adult. It truly is the craziest thing.

I am also sad and glad to say I have but ONE homeschooler left... My Princess is entering the fifth grade this year! THE FIFTH GRADE? Suddenly my precious little baby is a tween? How did that happen? Wasn't I just cradling her in my arms while working on a notebook project with my boy? When the grandparents said time flies they weren't joking... they just forgot mention it does so at the speed of light.

And so as we prepare to embark on another school year adventure I hope that I can stay steadfast to my plan to document the dear school days and create an online scrapbook of sorts to file away our memories created daily. Wish me luck on this journey... For a third time, it's a charm, right?

Time 4 Learning Review

I've been invited to try Time4Learning for one month in exchange for a candid review. My opinion will be entirely my own, so be sure to come back and read about my experience. Time4Learning is an online educational program that can be used in many ways including as a homeschooling curriculum or afterschool tutorial. Find out how to write your own curriculum review for Time4Learning.

I have a lot of friends and family that use Time 4 Learning online program, so I am excited to see what Time 4 Learning has in store for us. Stay tuned for the results.

Ok, so I wish I was better at this... 1/11/10

Well, It has been much time since my last post and there are so many things to talk about. Unschooling isn't my favorite term these days, but is my most favorite way to homeschool!!!! We were recently interviewed for a local TV station Teen Show by a couple of the local high school students. Wow what an experience!
The Unschooling, or "Student Led Learning" as I like to call it... has been amazing.
VWNut has pulled out Math and Science books without being asked. We don't fight to do any work at all any more. He signed up for an Economics class on Florida Virtual School all on his own.
Lil Cuz draws, writes, journals all day long. She has started playing computer "math" games learning mastering multiplication at Funbrain She has written plays and acted them out with The Princess.
The Princess plays games with letters and writing and since has decided that she doesn't want to learn to read write now we just say we are playing games and all the while... shhh don't tell her... we are reading! She loves Math and all the fun games we do with that. She decided to count the money in her piggy bank the other day and so we decided to learn about money and we made a graph and estimated and grouped and counted by 1's, 5's, 10's, and 25's and had a blast!
UNSCHOOLING, u-hem, I mean Student Led Learning.... IS SO INCREDIBLE!!!! We are all so much happier for it!

I have been absolutely horrible about blogging the last week and a half. I am hoping to improve that when school starts.
Sooo, I have been working hard to prepare for school. It's always so much fun in the beginning, it's following through to the end. So we shall she how this goes.
To recap the last 10 days I will make it easy on myself and just post some pics....

Wow, life sure does fly by... I keep trying to sit down and force myself to write, but there are so many distractions. I don't know how people keep up with this stuff! I am only whining beacause I'm jealous.

Anyway, here's a recap of the last 10 days...
Aug 18, 2009
On my last post Lil Cuz and the Princess were working on their "All About Me" lapbooks. Lil Cuz, who is new at homeschooling with Sunshine School, absolutely LOVED it. So a project that should have filled up at least 3 days for the girls, took her only 1 day to finish. Therefore I will have to plan more accordingly for her in the future. LOL.
Poor VWnut has been working desperately to finish the school work he put off all summer til the last minute (sounds familiar-like me procrastinating with this blog), and is miserable with the fact that he doesn't get to do fun stuff like that... LOL
Aug 19, 2009
The typical Swing Dance night, arrive for the class, dance our little hearts out and then come home and crash.
Aug 20, 2009
Had the Babies... niece and nephew over for the night, that was a lot of fun. Time to pull out some old preschool activities. What a blast! Everybody had a good time. Unfortunately the A/c unit 1 of 2 exploded, was entertaining but sucked for the sleeping department. So we all camped out in the living room (where the existing unit flourished and left condensation on the windows due to being turned way down to compensate for the extinguished unit =) LOL).
Aug 22, 2009
Made a preschool friendly breakfast for the Babies and everyone.
Even VWnut had some.
Then decided to go for a walk to the dock and park close to the house... with everybody, boy was that an exercise in patience!!!
Collected some shells (science)... and then caught a ride back home... Thanks Daddy
Played some more and had a nice long nap!
Aug 23, 2009 ~Sunday~ The Day of Rest!
And we rested.... not really, but I got a lot of work done, cleaning and organizing the classroom in an attempt to get ready for our school year.
Aug 24, 2009
I took the day to help VWnut meet his deadline. He has to finish his work by Tuesday... but unfortunately, he did not make it so he missed out on a fun day
Aug 25, 2009
MOSI day (Museum of Science and Industry), had their Free Homeschool Day! We and a bunch of friends and family join us on an amazing adventure through the museum! The kids and the Babies, had a blast.
Unfortunately VWnut was stuck home finishing up work. What a bummer, if only he had met his deadline!
